Invisalign Q & A
What is Invisalign?
Invisalign is an orthodontic treatment that uses custom-fit clear aligners to straighten teeth, rather than conventional metal braces. Much like braces, these removable clear aligners gradually straighten your teeth over time. The difference is that clear aligners are nearly undetectable to other people, so you won’t feel embarrassed wearing Invisalign.
What dental problems can Invisalign treat?
Invisalign is an excellent orthodontic option to treat the following dental concerns.
- Crooked teeth
- Crowded teeth
- Overbite
- Underbite
- Open bite
- Crossbite
- Gaps in teeth
If you have severely rotated teeth, traditional braces may work better to straighten your teeth.
What are the benefits of Invisalign?
Invisalign offers many benefits over conventional braces, such as:
Discretion
Not only are Invisalign aligners clear, but they’re also custom-made to fit your teeth perfectly, so most people won’t be able to tell when you’re wearing them.
Time
Invisalign treatments typically take between six months and 18 months, while conventional braces can take up to three years.
Removability
Unlike fixed braces, Invisalign clear aligners are completely removable. You can take them out to eat, drink, and brush your teeth.
Comfort
Traditional braces have metal brackets that can rub up against the inside of your cheeks, causing sores and irritation. Clear aligners are as smooth as your teeth, so they won’t irritate your mouth.
How does the Invisalign process work?
If your Oasis Pediatric Dental Care & Orthodontics dentist thinks you’re a good candidate for Invisalign, they create a model of your mouth using digital impressions — no messy molds required.
Once your dentist has a highly accurate model of your mouth, they can design a long-term treatment plan that targets your dental concerns week by week. The length of your treatment depends on a number of factors. Mild cases of crooked teeth, crowding, and spacing may take six to nine months, while more moderate cases can take up to 18 months.
Every two weeks, you receive a new tray of aligners to target different teeth or dental concerns. While these aligners are removable, you must wear them for at least 22 hours a day for the best results.
Though the Oasis Pediatric Dental Care & Orthodontics team recommends coming into the office for a check-in about once every six weeks, you don’t need to visit the office as often as you would with conventional braces.
Your Invisalign treatment plan is entirely digital, so your dentist can monitor your progress in the Invisalign software. If any adjustments need to be made throughout your treatment, your dentist can easily make those changes.
You don’t need bulky braces to get the smile you’ve always wanted. To find out if Invisalign is right for you, call Oasis Pediatric Dental Care & Orthodontics or schedule an appointment online.
